Boulder Face #5: Team Everest rules 2nd Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge


STA. CRUZ, Davao del Sur – Team Everest tops the list of winners, ruling all disciplines of the 2nd Mt. Apo Boulder Challenge held last April 29-30, here.

Composed of Carina Dayundon, Carlito Esparar and Erwin Pastour Emata; the team completed the race route with a total time of 16 hours, running off closest rival Team Mulatto Pilipinas (Cherryl Araneta, Marjun Balaite, Paulo Dino Quano) with a total time of 18 hours for second place while Team Edge Outdoors (Leslie Herrero, Christopher Eyao, Rey Sumagaysay) was at far third with a total time of 20 hours. Mulatto Move Free, Team HADAMS and Eco-Ventures shared the finishers’ slot.

The 2nd Mount Apo Boulder Face Challenge is a 24-hour extreme adventure race from Sta. Cruz beachlines to the skyline of Mount Apo’s boulder face through disciplines of mountain biking, trekking, tree planting, water tubing, road running and mind twister. It is conducted by the Municipal Government of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur in coordination with the Department of Tourism XI and Mountaineering Federation of Southern Mindanao aimed at promoting Sta. Cruz as a prime eco-tourism destination in the Philippines considering that it hosts a huge portion of the Mount Apo Natural Park and to create awareness on the protection, conservation and rehabilitation of the environment.

Team Everest pocketed 60,000 pesos cash prize and trophy, while Mulatto Pilipinas and Edge Outdoors received 40,000 pesos and 20,000 pesos, respectively. The top three finishers each won 5,000 pesos.

This year’s competition was participated by 11 teams.
