Volcanic activity in Mt. Kanlaon has prompted PHIVOLCS to place the volcano on Alert Level 1 status – which means that:”The local government units and the public are strictly reminded that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions,” the agency said.

Alert Level 1 in Mt. Kanlaon automatically means that hiking activities are suspended, until the alert level status is lifted by PHIVOLCS.

For those who have already booked flights to Bacolod, Pinoy Mountaineer recommends Mt. Mandalagan and Mt. Talinis as alternative hiking destinations in Negros.
